Notes of Light, which is installed on the main façade of Hospital Nova of Central Finland, in Jyväskylä, is a work created from painted aluminium. Together with the building’s windows and black base colour, it forms a harmonious composition above the main entrance. The work alters continuously in relation to changes and natural phenomena happening around it. Strong sunlight brings out a multicoloured, spectral surface, which in lower lighting gives way to a dark-grey entity. At night, artificial lighting bestows a gauzy veil of colour to the artwork, while cold weather might sheathe it in frost, once again changing its appearance.
The way in which Notes of Light lives in interaction with its surroundings emphasises the work’s connections with its time and place.
